Connection problems!!!

Ok guys I just got black ops recently and i love it! But when i first played it all night at my friends house(while useing his amazing internet speed) i thought i was just a beast at the game. I would always finish in 1st sometimes 2nd or 3rd but i always went positive and it was just awesome! Now im home and am useing my ok internet and i just cant seem to do that good at all anymore. I rarely finish first, im lucky if i hit top 3 if theres more than 5 ppl and everytime i watch the killcams its as if i just stood there and didnt even shoot while he hit me with a good 10 bullets and killed me. I want to know is there anyway i can change this? Cause i always beleived that everyone had the 2sec delay or so when it came to xbox live but now that iv played with 'good' internet i now know different.
If i can imrpove this without upgradeing my internet that would be awesome
